New executives were elected at the Public Relations Consultants Association of Nigeria (PRCAN) annual general meeting which held at the conference hall of Amber Residence, GRA Ikeja on the 6th of September, 2019.
Jaiye Israel Opayemi of Chains Reaction is now the President of the association; Vice President Adedayo Ojo of Caritas PR; Secretary-General Tokunbo George-Taylor from Hill + Knowlton Nigeria; Assistant Secretary Martha Okpeke from MediaCraft Associates; Treasurer Raheem Olabode from CMC Connect and Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abimbola of Integrated Indigo Limited.
The event was an eventful one which saw the immediate past President of PRCAN stating the achievements of the recently out gone excecutives. Some of which include;
- Facilitating a cordial and professional relationship between PRCAN and NIPR.
- Re-admittance of PRCAN into the International Communications Consultancy Organization (ICCO)
- The revival of the PRCAN masterclass and lectures.
- Compliant enforcement for non-PRCAN member agencies.
Further, into the meeting, the Business Transformation Committee (a committee set up to analyze issues affecting member agencies and proffer solutions to these issues) presented their report. The financial report was also presented and adopted. Our CEO, Adedayo Ojo, presented the report on behalf of the committee and stated the following recommendations after a thorough examination of the issues. His recommendations to the issues presented in the report include;
- Pitch fees: A standard pitch fee that should be instituted and implemented by all PRCAN member agencies. Defaulting members will be sanctioned.
- Payment terms & cycle: Client payment terms should be within 30-45 days.
- Practicing license: PRCAN should issue a practicing license to member agencies and sanction erring members. Whistle blowing should be instituted with protection for the whistleblower.
- Advocacy: PRCAN should embark on advocacy to promote the industry value propositions, share of voice and increase top of mind awareness.
- Capacity building & development for all practitioners
Nkechi Alli-Balogun represented the President & Chairman of the council, NIPR, Mr. Mukhtar Zubairu Sirajo. She gave a goodwill message and congratulated all the outgoing EXCOS for their hard work, tenacity, and achievements. She further encouraged the incoming excos to maintain a good relationship already established with NIPR and facilitate further collaborations for future activities.
All the outgoing excos and the immediate past president of PRACAN were awarded for their outstanding service to the association. The new members were sworn-in, in which our CEO, Mr. Adedayo Ojo emerged as the Vice President while Mr. Jaiye Opayemi, (outgone publicity secretary) emerged as the new President of PRCAN.
Jaiye Opayemi gave his presidential speech and promised to continue the good works done by the out-gone excos. He also promised to use the recommendations by the Business transformation committee for the advancement of member businesses and positioning the PR industry in the minds of the government, clients, and public.
